Caffeine, Coversation and Cure! by Dr. Merry Baruah

The evening settled upon us, comfortable
Like a lump of sugar
In the cup of coffee
That you ordered a while ago, for me.
The coffee and the sugar – in their tacit understanding, a perfect company, for the moment.
The tired sun settled too
Behind the skyscrapers
Locked up for the night
After the day’s work.
In the serene dusk
I could feel
The touch, left untouched.
The unsaid word
Loaded with all care and warmth
That came to your lips
And slipped deep into your heart, eventually.
Like a well kept secret
In a locked casket.
And the evening settled,
Comfortable, with all propriety.
And we drank our coffee
Talking of nothing.
